Problems deleting images from SD card

TeamTekeTeamTeke Posts: 989 Officer
Recently I noticed that I cannot delete images from my SD cards when I put them into my laptop's remote card reader. I am aware that some cards have a slide switch that prevents deleting but no matter which way I put it I cannot delete images. When the card is in the camera I can delete as normal and if I put the card in another computer with I can delete.

I remember that it didn't use to be this way and all worked fine some time in the past. Any thoughts what might have happened?

Try a cold reboot of the computer then see if the operating system sees the SD reader then.

As a diagnostic, doe another machine or your camera see the card?

What type of card is is?

Probably shouldn't ever delete or alter images directly on the card anyway. That's just asking for problems.

Copy everything to your computer and reformat right away.

i've been post processing quickies on my camera cards for years just so i know what to trash and what to keep...
    never had a problem...
i just "save as" on the card and do a little pp to see what it's worth...
i guess i'm lucky, or it doesn't matter...

    Try reformatting the card?

Correct. Copy to PC, then reformat card in camera.

i'm not conventional...i push the envelope all the time...
so far, never had a problem with my cards or images working straight off the card...
however, i don't do it often...
