Insane Prefront Bite 2/15/13

This day turned out nothing like we had planned. We had originally booked an offshore charter to get out for the only open fish, Mangrove Snapper. That charter cancelled the day prior which left us scrambling. After a recommendation we ended up fishing with Layne from Snapper Addict. Very glad we did. His rates are very reasonable but he fishes very hard and worked very hard to keep us on fish. I was a bit skeptical only going about 9 miles out for Mangrove Snapper but the first 2 fish that came up were a couple small Mangs. After that we did everything we could to get away from the "endangered" Gags. It was an amazing bite, every drop produce Gag after Gag. Thankfully a couple Mangs were mixed in to get some fish in the cooler. Finally tally for the day was 8 Mangs brought home, biggest being 21”, at least 40 gags with more than half of those being keepers. The biggest came on a triple hook up that we all managed to land our fish. The triple went 31”, 28” and my small one in the middle of 25”. All this was on light tackle meant to target the snapper. My best day fishing in FL so far.
