I have a rat or two in my shed out back. I have placed two of the big Victor snap type traps out there. I put them close together, about six inches apart and baited with peanut butter. Both traps have been sprung twice now and no rat. He must be huge or very smart. Any ideas before he gets too smart for the traps.:huh

Get your .22 rimfire or .410 and shoot the little suckers.
I have introduced lab rats in mass, like 20 into a home while is residents were away, the rats make it there home PDQ and procreate. Their urine and fecies are discusting....
Yep. We used to raise crickets and the food was like crack to the rats plus they would get HUGE. They would drag the traps off or leave tails. I'd go out a few times a night, quietly open the door, turn the lights on and blast away with the .22 pellet gun.
One that got into my apartment and ate the friend's WeightGainer 2000 I go with a garbage can with paper and peanut butter on it. Had line from the fishing rod tied to it and run up over a light. I heard him rustling, yanked the can up to the ceiling and heard him jumping up trying to get out so I kept bouncing. The flaw was... What now. I'm in my underwear, barefoot with a field rat in the garbage can hanging by a light.
Ended up battling him with a 4 iron and winning.

The traps are being sprung so I don't think it is a bait rigging problem. I don't see how the rat gets missed. Could it be possible that the rat is too big for the trap? I am using the large trap that is supposed to be for rats.
Fill it 3/4 full. then set a yard stick on the teedertoter on the lip.
Put peanut butter on the end of the yard stick.
When the smarter rat, walks out on to the stick after the peanutbutter bait, the yard stick tips the rat into the 5gl bucket with water.
That rat then drowns in the water.

Have used several times before. Also good on squirrels -- rats with a cute tail.
It is not a poison as such but basically, best as I can determine, plaster of Paris with a flavoring enhancement, . . . and not very humane if you want to get into that.
Once eaten (with moisture in the animal) it swells up and prevents and kills them by not being able to take a chit.

And for the record, I have about 100 or so, already glued on a paver, anyone is free to have one or two...
Which ones? The warfarin makes them bleed out by blocking the creation of clotting agents. We had to give our dogs charcoal at the ER and then massive vitamin K doses for about 8 weeks. They said if we saw any signs of bruising in their gums or eyes, they were gone. They would have already been bleeding inside.
I will not get the other stuff. They said there is no treatment for human or animal that gets them. Warfarin is a common human blood anticoagulant(blood pressure med).

Sorry, don't know anything about that.
My experiences and usage was ten-or-so years ago.

Brodifacoum is a 4-hydroxycoumarin anticoagulant, with a similar mode of action to its historical predecessors dicoumarol and warfarin. However, due to very high potency and long duration of action (elimination half-life of 20 – 130 days), it is characterised as a "second generation" or "superwarfarin" anticoagulant.[3]
Brodifacoum inhibits the enzyme vitamin K epoxide reductase. This enzyme is needed for the reconstitution of the vitamin K in its cycle from vitamin K-epoxide, and so brodifacoum steadily decreases the level of active vitamin K in the blood. Vitamin K is required for the synthesis of important substances including prothrombin, which is involved in blood clotting. This disruption becomes increasingly severe until the blood effectively loses any ability to clot.
In addition, brodifacoum (as with other anticoagulants in toxic doses) increases permeability of blood capillaries; the blood plasma and blood itself begins to leak from the smallest blood vessels. A poisoned animal will suffer progressively worsening internal bleeding, leading to shock, loss of consciousness, and eventually death.
Brodifacoum is highly lethal to mammals and birds, and extremely lethal to fish. It is a highly cumulative poison, due to its high lipophilicity and extremely slow elimination.
Following are acute LD50 values for various animals (mammals):[4]
rats (oral) 0.27—0.30 mg/kg b.w.
mice (oral) 0.40 mg/kg b.w.
rabbits (oral) 0.30 mg/kg b.w.
guinea-pigs (oral) 0.28 mg/kg b.w.
cats (oral) 25 mg/kg b.w. (approx.)[5][6][7][8]
dogs (oral) 0.25–3.6 mg/kg b.w.[5][6][7][8]
LD50 values for various birds varies from about 1 mg/kg b.w. — 20 mg/kg b.w.[3]

I don't mean to be condescending on you Tatoe, but one would think you have the minimal skills to read a label, understand what it means, and not poison your loved ones.
Sure you do. I hadn't even opened it, you are making assumptions again. I had it in an unlocked outside storage setup well above where anyone could access it. We don't even know if they got into it but that doesn't matter. Of course it was a BIG costly mistake and I paid dearly for it. It was unlocked was the error and the only error.

No rats here, but squirrels got in my shop. Tried my Have-A-Heart trap, but mice ate corn w/o springing trap.
Either spear it on or use a rubber band. They can't resist the apple.
Hate those **** wharf rats.
can I get an amen?
or have somebody else start it for you, then pull the rug out from them and accuse them of being a rat.
That too.
