Back in 2005 my buddy talked to Phil Robertson on the phone a few times. We ended up taking a fishing trip to my family's place in Louisiana. Phil lives between my grandmother's and another piece of property on a lake in Louisiana. My buddy gave Phil a call and he told us to stop by. Ms. Kay was in the kitchen, Si on the couch and Godwin sitting in a recliner. We sat and talked ducks for a while in his living room. Extremely hospitable folks. I just found this picture on my old laptop.

Was he the same in person as he is on the show? I know most of it is scripted but he always struck me as being the most genuine.

Exactly the same. The man was dipping Copenhagen and spitting in a laundry soap jug. He had a trash can by his chair that the inside if the lid said "this is not a spittoon". He kept asking the women that we brought with us if they picked ducks.

Nice. I'm not a duck hunter but the show is the best. Uncle SI kills me.

My dad was told by a fella that played ball with him at La Tech that he would take the plastic phonebook cover out if phone booths to make reeds for duck calls. He was much more of a hunter than a ball player, so I've been told.

It's a great show, one of the few reality shows with no cussing and usually a good message.
