A little visit with Webster revealed that "hood and hoodlum" date back to 1871/1880.
def. (1.) thug; esp: one who commits acts of violence.(2.) young ruffian
It's not the sweatshirt, it's who and where its worn .
I.e. thug wearing it hiding his face as he makes 4 trips around a convenience store. This is the negative connotation of a hoodie
The majority of the youths in the socio-economic environment that wear hoodies wear them to isolate themselves from the sh#t environment that they are raised in (Yes, they do know the difference, but cannot do a **** thing about it except roll with it). It gives them a sense of comfort and security...kinda like Linus and his blanket. It gets to a point that they do not even know that they put the hood up. The only problem is that it develops into a concealment mentality as they age...again due to the environment that they are raised in. Believe me...I do not condone it but, since I deal with it on a daily basis, due to my career choice, I am beginning to at least understand it. What those kids go through on a daily basis would make your head spin. I personally love hoodies, but seldom put the hood up. They just don't make sweatshirts that fit like a hoodie...Why? Just sayin'....

I showed the picture to my son...he wonders if Obi Wan had skittles in his pocket on the fateful day he battled with Darth Vader?
Isn't it funny how the words "silent", and "listen", have the same letters in them?
Only if the wearer has taken a 9 to the chest.
That cool.
Going to prepare to shoot me?
Although I do question why some people wear hoodies when it is 80-100 degrees outside...
