Lower Keys Reef/Trout Report 12/28
Fished yesterday and stayed primarily on the reef most of the day. Pushed out to 400 ft. or so and didn't see too much life or structure. We caught a good cero on the troll over the reef but surprisingly he was the only one. Heard of some others being caught and some nice kings, but not a whole lot. We caught enough yellowtail for dinner and played around with them on catch and release for a while before heading in. Today I shot out back for a quick trip,a literal hour and a half from dock to dock type trip. The plan was to drift through some areas with artificials and look for trout. We caught about a dozen or so cookie cutter sized 17/18 inch trout, one bigger guy in the low 20's, and a couple a little smaller. Of course the infinite ladyfish/jacks/mangroves were around as well. A lot of fun for a short trip, and all on artificial makes prep/cleanup a breeze. All trout were released to be fed soft plastic at a later date hopefully. Tight lines.
