YankeeTown by canoe 12/28

Decided to get a little canoe work out and toss some flies while I was at it. Ponce's freezing creek reds kind of inspired me, so I made a go of it myself, only I fished a little bit south of where he was. Low tide was looow too. Good thing I had the canoe, Panga skiff would have been el stucko a bunch of times. Had to work pretty hard and cover a lot of ground, literally in some cases..., but I managed a couple 21"-22" reds for dinner. Not many fish up inside though, most were about 3/4 mile or so inland of the outer spoil banks. Spooked at least 15-20 fish as I was on top of them before I could see them and the overcast skies didn't help much either. Luckily I was able to see the two I caught and make a cast before spooking them like all the others. Saw some very big upper/slightly overslot reds out there as well. Probably saw more sheepshead than I've ever seen around these parts too. Not particularly big, 12"-18" I'd guess, but they were in schools of 7-12 fish or so. Anyway, a great day on the water made better with a couple of fish for dinner tonight. :grin

Here's the fly I used... road hard and put up wet. :)

Nice red! Did you put in at the boat ramp and head left into those flats? It was super shallow last time I was there in the kayaks.

Great job on the chilly reds. It seems backwater (skinny water) reds is the game during this cold snap. Love the photos!
