We finished our new pool about 2 weeks ago. Cost us $26k but is worth every penny to us. It is a pebble finish with brick coping and flo-crete deck. Salt system is a must! This is the second pool we have had built and the upkeep on a salt pool with an auto cleaner is about 30 minutes a week. Here are some pics.

That latest rage in florida is the walk in. No more steps. I must say thats its kind of nice to have a long sloped walk in. YOu can just hang out there and the dogs love it too.

Go salt for a new pool. I just don't understand the point of lugging around toxic chemicals in your vehicle when you have a choice at the begining.

WOW!!! $26k!!! I was about to ask what one could expect to pay but from that last picture 26k doesnt get you very much square footage of pool. I want a pool big enough to swim laps and with an 8ft + deep end. I would hate to see the estimate for something like that. I could probably buy a foreclosed home w/ a pool for less then it would cost to get one installed.

Beach entry...Downside is you lose ALOT of water due to evaporation..

Best pool: Rectangular,Vac port,2skimmers, and autofill..Easiet to take care of and less problems.

Bear in mind, ours is a completely custom pool with pebble finish, salt sytem ($1500), waterfall, two raised decks, and a planter. Ours is about 18x24 not counting the sun shelf. You could get a standard diamond brite finish 14x28 6ft deep for about the same price (here in Polk county)

The shocking thing for me was the cost of the screen cage over the pool. Very, very pricey.

Fun for the whole family. Plus after about 10minutes in the sun the water temp is about 105. No need for any fancy heaters or chemicals. When your done find a floating kilo of white powder, take a couple rails of it then empty the pool with a gaff.

Or this, you can move it around to stay in the sun.

Thanks for the advice,,, most of it anyway..:trolls will be :trolls...

Looks like I am gonna go through with it.. Sounds like salt is the way to go.. I am going to have the hot tub with a spill over into the pool incorporated. Still not sure about the materials however.. Saw a contractor last week who has some pics of natural slab rock for the areas around the pool and it looks good. I like the idea of the screen but it would have to be something that could be removed prior to fall and winter. I think since we are so far into the summer that I will plan on construction in early spring.

The sun exposure thing concerns me a bit.. The area where the pool will be is gonna have some shade due to the treeline.

Not gonna tell the family until we get closer to the date,,, gives me time to talk myself out of it.

Salt may be better i dont know since I have only had chlorine. Some of you must have not known how to maintain your pool because i very rarely need more than just chlorine tablets, once in a blue moon i'll through in some powdered shock. Ezpz.

If there are neighbors around, build a privacy fence so you can swim naked. Nothing like letting the boys float freely.

A boat is a hole in the water you keep throwing money into, a pool is a whole in the ground you keep throwing money into. Get the idea? They are both fun until they have something go wrong. My .02

    :Agree

And I've had a DE filter, a cartridge filter and now a sand filter. The sand filter is by far the best and easiest.

I've only had a chlorine pool, but have friends with a salt pool and believe salt is the way to go if you are putting a new one in. If you are worried about heating it, go with a solar system

Have 2 contractors coming by in the next couple of weeks for estimates.. If the $$$ numbers are close to what I expect I will more than likely go with the plan to build one early next spring. Seems silly to start now only to have to close it for the winter so soon after they get it done.

THANKS for all of the advice. Looks like we are going with salt. I want a shallow entry and IF I go with the plans we will have a hot tub with an overflow into the pool. Don't need a fence. No neighbors within view of our house.

I HOPE I will not regret it,,, but the wife and kids really want one and with the are kids getting a little older it will hopefull help keep them around the house more in their teen years.
