I've stirred up many a yellow jacket nest working on fence lines ... but I had room to run ... those were probably my fastest 40 yard times
I just poured some gas on the nests ... it didn't take much ... didn't light it either

I got stung buy 60 of em while clearing some land with a loader. It was like you see in a cartoon, pulled back a palmetto and they came up in a bunch and shot right after me. I blew up like a balloon. Not allergic to bees but those things about killed me.

Bush hogging stirs them up pretty good too. By the time you realize they are in a frenzy it's too late to escape unscathed.

Gardawg has the right solution! I've spent a career working in the woods, and I can write a dissertation on these **** things! I've known one fellow forester killed by yellowjackets on a hot July afternoon, and another killed by a scumbag for his billfold. I've always said that the two things you need to watch carefully in the woods are stinging insects like yellowjackets, and a man!
Fins - how are you doing today? 27 stings is quite a hurtin'
I am OK.. Swelling is down.. Just lots of red dots on my face and arms. My eye lid is kinda of droopy still. Thanks for asking.. This evening when it gets dark,,, they will get a hurting put on them.

I went to Tractor Supply and got some of the heavy duty spray.. If I can get under that pallet then I will have the day.
I did however change the attack day until Monday evening.. My wife and kids are gone for the weekend and all of my folks are off until Monday.. If things went bad,,, would hate to not have anyone to call the meat wagon for me. I am not allergic to bees but if I were to get a bunch of stings again so close to the last go round,,, might not be good for me.

Fins, maybe you have built up an immunity to 'em (I wouldn't count on it!). I know it hurt. I've been stung many times, but not that many at once. One time I was cuttin' line with a bush axe. It was in August, and I had my shirt off. I had two rodmen with me, but I was in front when I chopped into 'em, so I saw them first. I hauled buggy and yelled for them to run. It took them a second or two to react. I ran so hard I slung my watch off. After about 20 yards, I took a sharp 90* turn out through the woods. My two guys came sprintin' down the cut line, and the Jackets were stinging them about the butt. I really felt bad for them, but it was funny looking. They would run a little bit, then jump a little bit, or a run-jump combination. Somebody said like a cartoon. I took four hits on my empty belly. We were late for lunch and starving. It hurt so bad it made me sick. Couldn't eat a bite! I can't imagine 27 at one time!!! Sorry, bro. Makes me ache for ya'.
I am a forester, and run some logging crews. One crew was felling some hardwood with chain saws the other day. They cut into a hollow tree that had a yellow jacket nest in the cavity. Wasn't funny at the time, but thinking back, its funny that those little SOB's can make a bunch of burly, chain saw-wielding, men go running off squeeling like little girls.
Dad got hit a couple of weeks ago 27 times mowing at his place. House hold amonia taked the sting away and draws the poison out pretty dang quick. I'll be gassing the 3rd nest in my yard in 3 weeks tonight.

It went quick and easy,,, put 2 full cans into the pallet opening and then down the hole they were coming out of.. Opened it up with a shovel,, the nest was as big as a bowling ball. No additional stings to report.

Dug one up bout a month ago,it was bigger round than a five gallon bucket and five layer's thick...Cant see how them feller's kin build that thing in the ground like that...
I've had several encounters, especially during my years in north Georgia. Come October of each year, they get real pesky trying to find food to last the winter. I found out the hard way that taking a leak outside can be risky during that frenzy time. My wife didn't mind the swelling as much as I did. BTW - I found that the really slick clay mud, the kind that makes a crusty layer when a puddle dries up, can be used to draw the venom out of a sting. Just dab it on the sting and your body temperature will dry the clay quickly, drawing moisture and the venom from your skin. I use to keep some in a baby food jar just for that purpose.

Upside, bee/wasp venom is supposed to help with arthritis. You have athritis fins? Almost be a shame if you didn't.
