If it's any consolation, you guys on the WC have some of the finest local tackle stores in the country, they have everything you could ever need for any type of fishing. Bass pro sucks nutz! We have one in Orlando on I-drive, you will pay 25-40% more for the same items there, the items you need are always out of stock and their corporate policy dictates that only get what the managers deem necessary for stock. The one in O-town is quite a hike for me, it was a treat to shoot over there for the day and try to pick up a few items. I have not been back in 2 years, the lack of availability on items I needed pushed me over the edge, stick with your local tackle stores.
Exactly why I CAN'T buy at small tackle shops, they don't have stock of anything! Thus it is either BPS or WM.
Basically everything you've stated above is untrue and wildly inaccurate. Just an FYI.
Just an FYI, this is exactly what I was told by one of the guys in the department. Why are you so enamored by this? Sounds like you may have a vested interest here JJ? Everything I wrote was 100% accurate, when there is nothing in stock that I wanted, the staff did nothing! If you ask for something in the fishing department you get a song and dance, they will not order something that is not in stock when asked! Please, tell me which time I was in the store where you witnessed the conversation? Perhaps be a little more diplomatic with your responses, doesn't sit well.

Really? Really? I paid over $800 bones for a tallica25 2 speed and found the same one online for $699 retail! A spool of BB Momoi diamond for $144, online retail for $99!
I can tell you that the CCA, NRA, NWTF, BSA and QDMA are all extremely pleased with their partnership with Bass Pro.
I've been to more then a few Gulf Council meetings and don't remember ever hearing anyone from BPS.
James you might want to mention to them that sending a representative to speak on behalf of the company would go a long way towards building some good will with the Rec anglers.
Just a thought.
THERE SHOULD BE NO COMMERCIAL FISHING ALLOWED FOR ANY SPECIES THAT IS CONSIDERED OVERFISHED.
BPS likes having the CCA logo above the cash registers, that's about the extent of the relationship.
The last time is was in there a guy was looking at a Hobie Outback. The Mirage Drive (pedals) were installed backwards. I would have paid money to see him return it complaining it only went backwards.

Too bad BPS is so over priced. It is very tourist oriented and ways busy which makes its a PITA to get anything. I wish we would get a Gander Mtn modeled after the one in Palm Beach Gardens. Their gun counter is great and I never have to wait.
Bass Pro can build where ever they wish, but getting $8M in taxpayer funds is ridiculous.
Technically (or literally) BPS isn't getting the 8 million. A private entity will be getting the monies to do the road(s) redevelopment.
Hopefully that entity will be local and put even more people to work :thumbup

Me either Jerry, and between the both of us we've covered a few of those meetings. :wink
I love Bass Pro. I can spend a whole day in that place just window shopping. I grew up with the daughter of the founder. He started out in the oil industry. He later opened a chain of liquor stores and that is how Bass Pro got started. Before they opened the super stores they sold bait and tackle in a corner to the Brown Derby liquor stores. Growing up that is where we bought all of our bait and tackle. The store here in Springfield, MO is always well stocked. They may be higher priced than other stores but I can always find what I need. I buy my guns and most of my reloading equipment online, but get my powder and primers there since I don't have to pay the hazardous material shipping fees. I also buy most of my fishing equipment there. The store is almost always packed with shoppers but I have never had to wait in line more than a couple of minutes to check out. I try to support to smaller stores when I can but they often don't have the equipment that I need. Even though it is a huge store and probably does put some of the smaller stores out of business, i consider it a local store because it was started here in Springfield and it grew from a small store into what it is now because of their success and wide variety of products. The store here sells mostly tackle and boats for freshwater fishing, but the locations near coasts have a lot of saltwater equipment and some even sell boats for offshore fishing. It is a great place to go for all of my outdoor supplies in one location without having to drive around town to multiple places to get what I need and the savings in time and fuel make up for the slightly higher prices you pay. I can buy my camping, hunting, and fishing supplies all in one stop. I don't care for some of their clothing brands, but they also sell some quality clothing as well. When people ask me what I want for Christmas or my birthday I always suggest gift certificates to Bass Pro.
They also give a lot of money and supplies for disaster relief and do a lot of work to help get kids interested in fishing and the outdoors.
I like to actually put my hands on the fishing gear I use, I pretty much just don't mail order my tackle. There's a local farm/lumber shop that sells a lot of stuff but not everything. It's nice to actually go to Gander Mountain or wherever (we have no BP here in Gainesville) to check things out. There's something to be said for actually holding a fishing pole or lure in your hand. If you hate BPS so much, go to their store and check out the stuff and then buy/order from somebody else!

Maybe local government will hire and pay a local contractor to put up a sign on I-95 for my business.
Not so much fishing stuff, but hunting, it is either BPS, D icks, Gander Mtn, Sports Authority etc. guns and ammo I can get at local mom and pops or internet and I do.
Never had a problem with the clothes from BPS even the Redhead. I'll head east coast to Gander Mtn soon to check out the archery.

If you decide to build a house in the woods where there is no access and the you tell the county that you can't build your house and pay property tax because you can't get to it, so they contract with a 3rd party to provide you with one , they are gifting you that money and you would be required to identify it as income on your tax return.
Suppose the county said no to you, but gave some guy from Missouri the money because he was going to build a bigger house than you and hire kids to mow his lawn and servants?
Is that fair?
Is the a wise use of tax dollars?
I would be curious to see what the recovery in tax revenue is projected for the infrastructure improvements.
I bet the Mom and Pops would like the county to provide turn lanes , new driveways, curb cuts and parking lots for their stores too.

Is that fair? You've been on MSNBC or Rachel Maddow too much or something.
A person would have to wonder why so many BPS and Cabela's are welcomed into the communities.
If they are so evil............how,why are they still being built and not often shuttered?
8 million on road repairs (that area REALLY needed this done anyways; it was only a matter of time) is nothing, hell as I mentiioned, we spent what..........165 million for Glazer to make millions??
I don't know many communities that support BPS or Cabelas never having seen the latter. I don't think most people would care what goes in which shopping center as long as they, don't have to pay for it. There was a hell of a commotion in the local fishing community when Bass Pro announced in Ft. Myers, just like the objections we see here. Big boxes add nothing to a community but diminish its sense of community and culture by displacing local business.
Growth and development of every kind should be self supporting and responsible to provide whatever transportation and utilities infrastructure is necessary to establish and sustain it. Its simply good planning. A fiscally responsible government ensures that it is.
The $8M is not to fix potholes. It is for intersection improvements and additional lanage to accommodate the additional traffic volumes the store will attract.
I've spent enough time in Hillsborough to see the need for roadway improvement necessary for existing retail centers and residential neighborhoods, without adding more.

Kind of a hike to go there from Palm Harbor, Clearwater area.. ..especially since ****, Wally and about 15 bait stores are within a 10 mile circle... But still..I am sure I will go.. They have great peanut brittle
There is one in Sevierville Tn but now one is coming to Bristol not far from the speedway. Glad to get it,,, shorter drive. Found out that Cabelas is on the way about 10 miles from where BPS is being built.
ALLISON XB 21,, MERCURY 300 Opti Max Pro Series (Slightly Modified) You can't catch me!!! "Today is MINE"
They are putting one in Palm Bay, it is going into an existing building that was a former car dealership, the local tackle shop owner of the shop I buy my fly gear from is not happy, but every BPS I have been in has had a minimal fly section, but I will still support the local tackle shops whenever I can.
Can someone show me on a map where they are going to put this, I have seen several descriptions. If the entrance is going to be off Faulkenburg, that looks like it going on the wetland just East of Palm River. That's not really a prime location in relation to Adamo traffic, and I can't see why they would need an 8 million dollar road there. If it is off Adamo, I don't see much room between the I-75 ramp and the mall?
BPS is coming to Tallahassee as well. They are expanding the old Sportsman's Warehouse that didn't last 2 yrs.

My thoughts exactly, reminds me of Salt Life people who wear the shirt but between them and the shirt haven't been within 250 miles of saltwater.

How much sales tax do you generate for the county/state?

Not so much sales tax more as payments to other FL financial departments, but my sign would not cost 8M either.
