This is the Florida Sportsman forums, where do you live/fish that the water temp is 40 degrees?
I fish out of a kayak 100% year around in Central Florida your missing out on some of the best fishing of the year!

Fish really slow and deep with soft plastics IMHO, generally not as many bites but when they do they're bigger fish. I wish I could help you more with the winter but as a pond shore fisherman its difficult for me to get in some of the deeper water and locate structure/features, and i havent had very much luck in the winter, and i have been fishing more with live bait recently, but id probably fish during the time of day that the air temp is most comfortable (same for year round, summer in the morning/evening and winter during midday) b/c it seems the fish are more active during those times
Here in CFL spawn starts as early as late january in some of the smaller ponds that heat up faster

Thanks for the help I've lived in CFL for 50+ years almost every 10lb plus Bass I've caught was between Jan and end of May. I mostly fish the Harris Chain, St Johns River and in the Ocala National Forest lakes. Deep water structure fishing has never been very productive for me.
