Yes I believe that this is the end around to produce not better data...but an ultimate IFQ, Limitied Acces and Catch Share Scheme....

A lip stick on a pig move....

No one should be fooled...any system that is built upon the previous data is FLAWED

Even with Tags...the number of fish allowed would be 350% to 400% lower than they would is accurate recreational participation was used. Add this
with the biomass of the stocks found on artifical structure and the contrast is even bigger. With their other failures mounting, and the idea that they
want to be able to restrict our access to fishery data even further, do we trust them at all when they give us data from Stock Assesments.........Add this
to the numbers they are currently using not factoring in the diminished fishing pressure that has yet to get anywhere near 2006 levels, and on and on.

The NMFS uses a 2 edged sword in their determinations, that cuts the recreational angler in both directions.

I see at least a couple of threats here:
    1) The potential that we'll have to buy each individual fish from the government via the price of a tag.
    2) The strong suspicion that the tags will allow for even more egregious 'science' to be rammed down our collective throats.
    3) Tag allocations that leave recreationals out of the fishery.

What about a tag system for Spanish mackerel, mangrove snapper and yellowtail snapper? That would make as much sense as one for red snapper eh?

The gov just won't accept the well demonstrated fact that the '92 changes for red snapper in the Atlantic caused a huge increase, which was continuing nicely without the damaging closure.

Gulfside red snapper are highly abundant as well, contrary to the the NMFS' absurd, flawed so-called science.

    Tis incredible to be sure.

This is crazy. The council stinks of corruption, we all the help we can get in this fight. Thanks for the heads up.
Despite all the bad science what they havent taken into account is that fishermen arrent going to take it lying down. Traditional channels have failed us, like water, we will find the cracks in the wall and flow in a huge torent

FS Karl there will be tags for every specie. They are not betting so big on "natural capital" without expecting a big payback. Our oceans are just a start. Welcome to the "blue green economy".

It's looking like more destruction. Doubt we'll have anything left to fish for if this administration runs wild for four more years. Unreal that Florida is running so close. I knew we were in trouble when that idiot Alan Grayson was re-elected.
