Salt pool needs to run since it produces chlorine only when running. 6-8hrs summer and Winter 4hrs. If you have a lot of debris and a automatic vac you may have to run longer. I the summer it helps to keep from black algae forming(stagnant water) With the right amount of chems you can keep any pool blue without running at all.
I run my pump zero hours per day but I dont have a pool at my place yet. I setup my parents to run from 9am to 5pm year round. In heavy pollen times I'll drop a couple chlorine tabs in the pool float to keep everything under control. I shock it every couple months during the cold season. And i have the water tested at Pinch-a-penny every couple weekends to see if it needs acid or anything while in town.
8 hours a day. Fine during the summer, too long in the winter but I am too lazy to change the settings. Saltwater pool converted back to good ol' chlorine, saltwater is a PITA in my opinion. Or maybe it is just the particular system I have.

The indoor control panel on mine quit working about a month ago, so I'm turning mine on manually. I try for 6 hours a day, but last week one time was about 48 hours straight and about 36 off.:banghead
salt has to run a lot I think since it generates chlorine. I run mine about 1.5hrs but it's not currently salt. It's clean, no algae, no dirt and balanced.

One turn over is all a properly balnced pool needs. Also a two/multi speed pump can be run a LOT longer while using MUCH less energy!

8 hrs summer 4 hrs winter. I have two houses with pools. Had two diferent brands of salt/chlorine generators since I wanted the least amount of maintenance. Both brands constantly broke down and cost me a fortune in repairs and that is with me doing the repairs and buying the parts wholesale. Got rid of them and went back to chlorine although I didn't want to, If someone has a salt machine that is reliable please let me know.
I run mine at 40% salt output and about 5 hours a day. Everything seems to be OK at this time frame/output. I tried to increase output and cut back hours, but not enough chlorine was generated, so the 40% at 5 hours seems to be fine for my system.
7 hours year round. When I have to add salt I'll let it run a little longer.

For my very small pool, I run it about 5 hours and it keeps it clean, and power bill is not even noticeable.
