Hacksaw just takes longer is all.
Never had to do it but I'd bet with enough patience it would work.
Of course I just spent 2 hrs with a drill in my hand drilling through 2 inches of solid steel tubing because I don't have a still press. So take my advice for what it's worth....Not a dime

If you have to do some thing like that bring it to the shop I do have a drill press.
Taps will teach you very quickly to go slow and use plenty of lube.
I worked for an aluminum air boat Co.
And each boat had around 1500 drilled and tapped holes to hold the polymer to the bottom, there was nothing about going slow.
I still power tap with a hand drill. But I do go slower on steel, most of my work is with aluminum.

:huh
On a piece of equipment. Bolt broke Off, I welded another one to it. Broke the new bolt but not at the weld. So I ground it flush and decided to just through bolt the 2 pieces back together. Drilled a new hole 2 inches lower and found out the 1" round was solid.

Hey Clausa. To be on the safe side I would use a T-handle tap wrench for tapping and hopefully not a cresent wrench. Use plenty of lube and back the tap off after a few threads to break the chip. You don't want to bottom the tap out at the full depth. After tapping 1/4-3/8 inch back the tap out all the way and brush the chips off the tap and continue. These are just a few suggestions so you don't break the tap. Oh ya, don't force the tap and no such thing as to much lube.

If the time it would take to remove the part made it not worth removing to put in a drill press.
Mag. drill is the next best thing, sorry I don't have one of those.

He didn't break it, we are just messing with him about the problems he could have.
And problems some of us have dealt with.
No Calusa since last night. I'm guessing he decided to go tap it after FSU lost and snapped the tap. Ready for "FSU sucks and I'm in the market for a new truck" thread.

Mean yet funny all at once
Hacksaw the end off and use the tap as a stud now. Done deal
Taps normally break and leave you with nothing or very little to grab on to.
And you show me a hack saw blade that will cut a hardened tap.
