You can hammer on anything you want but if that relay doesn't click when you turn the key the only thing you will be doing is knocking magnets off the starter.

This^ I don't remember the big C telling us if he is getting a click from the starter solenoid or not, That click is one of those things that is a constant on those trucks.

He said that the trolling motor engaged when the wifey turned the switch to start.
I just ordered a trolling motor for the shop as a new starter/solonoid tester. We should be the only ones in town with this fancysmancy equipment!

Eletrical trouble shooting can be a PITA!! My tractor would not crank last weekend. Test light showed power at the battery and the starter but it would not do nothing when trying to crank it, not even a click. I noticed the light was just a tad dimer on the starter but not much. Got a volt meter and I was getting 12+ volts on the pos bat post but inly 9+ on the pos bat clamp. cleaned everything and got the same result. Ended up being something in the pos cable going from the bat to the starter. I could jump it if I connected the cables to the starter but not the battery.

I don't think he said that plus he connected the motor across the high current poles. If the relay worked there would be exactly no voltage difference between those poles while in START. I too have had to tap starters to free the brushes but if the relay/Solenoid nor the one on the starter click then it does nothing.
Without a test light or meter ain't nothing happening. The fact that he removed the ground ground and reconnected SHOULD mean it's not that connection. Since he could jump across the relay and crank means the connections and battery are good.

I just thought of somthing else. Check the mounting bolts for the solonoid. The solonoid grounds through its mounting bracket and can get corroded causing the solonoid not to fully close when commanded.

    get a durn test light

OK, so what is the status of Calusa's F250?

    Most interesting thread lately.
