Pioneer Life in Southeast Florida by Charles W. Pierce. His family was one of the first pioneer families in SE FL. The story begins in the 1870's as the family settles on what is now known as Hypoluxo Island on the then freshwater Lake Worth. Stories include how they hunted bear on the beach at night, hand digging the first inlet and living off mainly the spoils of shipwrecks. As a boy, he would cross the lake and hunt deer in present-day Lantana. Truly amazing read. It's not easy to find a copy, but can be found online.
If I could travel back in time, I would want to see this exact time frame in Florida. The fish and wildwife must have been everywhere.
There is no greater passion than that of a fisherman. Avatar photo: Grandparents and my Dad at Blowing Rocks, Jupiter 1923.
