Pump from ground to softener to aerator tank. Aerator tank has no pump but uses the feed pressure and aerator nozzles in the feed line. The second pump pulls from the aerator and has a check valve in the tank to maintain pressure.

so it only aerates and then settles? Not aeration on a schedule too? How often do you have to clean sediment from the tank? I was told that's no fun either.

I installed a Lapure Whole house system. Bought it through DirectBuy but I think the copany is based out of Clearwater. I paid around $2k and installed it myself. It has a 4 stage operation 1. Is a softening agent that drips into the water 2. goes through a coconut shell tank (can't remember what this removes) 3. goes through the carbon filter tank for the chemical agent removal and last through a paper filter. The water up here (as most of S FL) is hard and would leave heavy mineral deposits. Since the install the shower glass stays clear, no deposits or soap scum. Wife loves it says her hair is cleaner. I am happy with it after a year of use. Still on the first gallon of the softening agent. Tater they make a well system as well. They are worth looking into IMO!

There's a low point drain that I open once a year or so and let it flow a bit but it's not like there's a bunch of crap getting pumped in there. When the water level in the Aerator drops the overgrown toilet valve starts opening allowing the pressurized soft water to flow through the spray nozzles and once the level is high enough the toilet tank valve does it's job again.

Mine came from HD or Lowes, can't recall. It's only like 265 gallons or so. I'm sure there are far better units available but this one works for me just fine.

I disagree the 2500 gallon storage Coldie cites is huge. That is a cubic volume about 7 feet on a side. Any Tractor Supply can source a 2500 "tupperware can" for a few hundred dollars. considering a family of four, 2500 gal. is about four days supply.

Our family of four with two large dogs went through 9600 gallons of water last month. WE haven't had a need to water the garden for months now.

I have well water and am pretty satisfied with having a water softener along with a activated charcoal filter. Have a RO system for drinking/cooking water.

Change the charcoal out every 6 months or so. RO filters about once a year.

Good for you using so little water many here would like to know more about that. I assume this is finished water (drinking water) You have a well or gray water system for other uses?

Also, FYI, in FL it is considered professionally responsible to plan 150 gallons per person per day. Thus that is what I used in my calculation above.

Why do you change the charcoal? Does it get restrictive? Does it backflush? What about the softener? I hear you change half of it every few years but the well people over here don't sell the resin.
