Guana seaside ramble this week. Wonderful weather.I usually head to Talbot, had not been to Guana in some time.
I recall the efforts (often correctly referred to as "fight") to secure Guana from development. The Guana WMA & State Park was the first Conservation and Recreation Lands Act (C.A.R.L.) project in Northeast Florida.
CARL was conceived and lobbied by Johnny Jones,Florida Wildlife Federation.I was serving on the FWF Board at the time.I recall accounts of the purchase negotiations.....the sellers did not want to include beach front east of AIA. Johnny Jones was tough. Thank you Johnny! Neat to know too during this week's ramble that early duck season was underway across the street.Marsh hog hunts in the great horizon marsh are special too.
Come to think of it,preserving Talbot was a "fight" too....
Here are some Guana A1A snaps
Onward!
Hunters are present yet relatively uncommon in Florida :wink
