Because one is a racial slur and the other is not. People can stop being a redneck if they try really, really, really, really hard. Really hard.
Hum. Seems odd that's it's OK slur someone based on their ethnicity but not race. Does this mean it's OK to slur Jews and Poles? I will also argue that redneck is a racial slur.
