Earlier this evening i was driving down Kanner near Salerno and saw hundreds of crabs in the road. I pulled over to get a better look and some kind of looked like blue crabs and others had more of a purple color. Most only appeared to have one claw. Some peole were on the side of the road collecting them and said they are good to eat. I believe there is a big migration that takes place in Miami but never heard of one up this far north. What are they and are they good to eat? Also is there a limit.
I will try to upload a pic i took on my cell phone later.
It works 60% of the time all the time......

as you can see they are out of season, but I can't imagine FWC cares too much about these.
Last line in the regs. Doesn't seem to be worth risking the trouble over them.
I have seen some in Stuart but never that many..once in a while I see them around the Psl Blvd/Bayshore Blvd area.
And yes, they are out of season.

I only took a pic of one of them and it came out kind of blurry. If you drive down Kanner today you will probably still be able to see the remains of all the ones that got hit by cars.
That makes sense that the storm put them on the move. Actually a few days ago i was out for a walk in my neighborhood and saw one crab but did not think anything of it. I did not take any as i did not know the regs or the kinds of crab they were. Also, i am normally do not take the food i am going to eat off the side of the road.

Island folk would catch them and put in a pen, feed them corn to sweeten the meat
This was a few miles west of the high school.
