It is the site of a closed motel in Chokoloskee. There were plans to build a marina on the site but there were legal issues. Probably is not going to happen for some time if at all.

Last I heard which was about 2-3 months ago was the buyers were basically run out of town and have not been back. Locals were not real happy with what was going on.

I was down there today and was told by the man at Smallwood's store that the permits for the marina are about to expire. Very little work done, but equipement are on the site.

y'all reckon the current owners are looking to get out of that deal? I wonder what it was that the locals didn't like about what they were doing. Wouldn't mind getting an early start on my retirement plan of opening up a fish camp of, by, and for fishermen! If any of y'all have any knowlege of any such thing in that area, please feel free to drop me a line. Not looking to make some exclusive fancy thing, just a nice, clean honest fish camp. Thanks y'all!

Last i heard was the property was on Indian buriel grounds and the local tribe still held a few tribunals there every year. They helped er stopped any progress with the sale. That was last yrs info though. To the dude from Orlando looking to buy a fish camp, as Bill told me last summer Parkway is always up for sale at the right price. The place is a great place to stay and fish but he gets almost no daily drive up business with the lift in and out of operation. Parkway is THE BEST location on Choko for access to the park but needs a boat ramp. The owners before Bill sold the best part of Parkway as owner/trailer home sites. Crazy the prices they still want for property on the island. All I can say for sure is the island is full of lucky folks!

Anybody who wants to have some good reading and has some time will want to pick up the Peter Mathiessen Trilogy starting with "Killing Mr Watson". Great history of the area. You then understand what people say about Chokoloskee. JP
