Head on over to AnnaMaria Island go north to the end....
There's a marina up there with a fine menu.

But, my favorite seafood restaurant on this coast is
    LOCK n KEY
    in ENGLEWOOD BEACH
    It's at the triangle.
    Manasota beach rd.

The original "Crab Trap" on US 19 gets my vote! They actually cook seafood vs just frying everything.

Well, I agree about Anna Maria island. I'd go to the Sandbar for the food. It's not as quiet, necessarily, but you can sit open air "on" the beach and feel the breezes, and the food is super awesome.

It doesn't have quite the ambiance of the others listed here, but Captain Brian's on 41 by the Sarasota airport is excellent. The spicy gumbo is delicious, but they don't have it every day.

Ocean Harvest, Bradenton; haven't been since they moved but they're good. A fresh seafood market/restaurant run by a charter captain: http://www.oceanharvest.tv/

Star Fish Company, Cortez: http://www.starfishcompany.com/starfishcompany/index.html very casual, very fresh fish served right on the commercial dock. Order at the window.

I'll second Captain Brian's. It's also one of those restaurants with a seafood market counter.

Linger Lodge is a must-see; old Florida at it's wackiest. But I don't think the food is anything special.

Barnacle Bill's has great seafood, more expensive than the others. I've been to the one in downtown Sarasota; there's one somewhere on 41 too.

My wife loves the Mar Vista on the north end of Longboat - quiet, good food, on the water, a bit pricey, but nice for a date night
    Cheap, fast, reliable - pick two . . .

The fresh catch will not be on the menu at the restaurant...
    Remember to ask your server.
Usually it's Grouper or Redfish... The Redfish is very good and very fresh...
    Lightly blackened.
    Enjoy!

I now live in West Palm Beach, but when I lived there, it was either Mar Vista or as crazy as this sounds, The Rod and Reel Club at the North End of Anna Maria. The Mexican Grouper is over the top! I've actually finally figured out how to make it here at my home in Jupiter because I missed it so much... The Rod and Reel Club is a DIVE, full on, but it's one of my fave places in all of Tampabay...

I've never tried anything else on the menu, so I can't speak beyond what I believe is one of the best ways to prepare fish EVER...

Downstairs is a bar and bait shop, upstairs is the restuarant...

Here is a picture of my version of the Rod and Reel Club (Pier) Mexican Grouper...

    And my recipe for it...

There’s this tiny little restaurant at the end of a pier off of Anna Maria Island right were Tampabay meets the Gulf of Mexico. It’s called The Rod and Reel Club. Situated in a tiny two story building, it’s an authentic Bahamian looking dive of a place with seating for only about 30, and I promise you this, you wouldn’t eat there unless someone told you to do so, twice. In fact, it shares its space with a little bait shop and a bar downstairs with seats for about 15. I don’t know much about the menu because the first time I experienced the Rod and Reel Club, I was told to order the Mexican Grouper, and it was sooooo good, I never tried anything else after that. Skipper one evening said; “that dish would be a snap to make”. She went to Publix and her first run at it was pretty much on the money. We played around with it a few times and this is then end result.
    INGREDIENTS
     Fish of your choice
     Yellow Rice
     Black Beans
 Diced Tomatoes ~ (DelMonte with the Basil, Garlic and Oregano if possible, or add spices yourself)
     Vidalia Onion
     Green Bell Pepper
     Red Bell Pepper
     Mushrooms
     Cayenne Pepper
     Whipping Cream (or milk)
     Sour Cream
 Salt and Pepper to taste
    DIRECTIONS
 Marinate fish in whipping cream (not much gets in, so don’t worry, or whole milk) with some salt and pepper
 Remove fish from marinade and thoroughly pat dry
 Rub fish with olive oil and lightly salt and pepper
     Grill Fish….
 Cook Yellow Rice as described.
 Sautee ½ Vidalia onion, ½ green bell pepper, 1 red bell pepper, then add 1 can of diced tomatoes (DelMonte with the Basil, Garlic and Oregano if possible, or add spices yourself)
 Add ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper to sauce, simmer 1 minute
 Add mushrooms, stir and simmer 5-10 minutes over low heat.
    SERVING INSTRUCTIONS
Serve fish over a bed of yellow rice, then top fish with the tomato-cayenne sauce. Serve with a side of black beans with a spoon of sour cream as pictured.

Those muttons are good eating and that one is just the right size. When I head to Key West we pull some real slobs down there along with some others like this Cubera Snapper

I personally use Diawa reels, had a bunch of saltist 30, 40 and 50 high speed 6.4:1 sold them and got a Saltiga 35---2 speed and Saltiga 40 on Calstar rods. one 7 foot and nne 8 foot
The boat itself have pulled muttons up to 23 pounds, ARS up to 18. Jolt head porgies to 12 Then a monster Wahoo at 90, black grouper largest was 55. when you fish the Tortugas you never know what to expect. He also now hold a Fl record Margate at 19.6 pounds.

I run some private charters on a friends head boat about 4 times a year, limited to 20 people on a 100 foot boat, 3 day trips called marathons. I have known the owner Captain for years. He has 24 years of experince fishing the Tortugas. Used to split time bewteen Glouschter and Key West but becuase of new regs for Cod he chose to stay in Key West Full time

Here is the link for Sept and October trips, everything is still open except ARS

That last photo was a 3 day trip with 15 anglers

Pier 22 at the Twin Dolphin Marina is fantastic if having a date night with your wife. The Cortez kitchen for grouper sammiches and beer is a hard to beat if with your girlfriend.... :)

Depends on the quality of food and date you are looking for .. both are fantastic IMHO

We are still kicking it around but it sounds like the Lodge might be a good place. This gal is from South Carolina, yep accent and all! She is just in Bradenton a few years.

Me I like the pier, might even bring a rod along..what's under there anything to play with. She is a newbie to fishing..hasn't even been on my boat yet..so safe bet would be the pier and see I can get a tug on a line. For her...I'll just watch and and try not to laugh to much, but will help her out.

I honestly don't know.. .I never really bought seafood at a restraunt since I could get fresh fish pretty much any time I wanted it. I've heard good things about the linger lodge. The wife keeps hounding me to take her there. So I would have to say, teach her to fish and cook or linger lodge. Good luck!
