Homosassa Scalloping Report 7/19-7/21

We headed to the Camp and Water Outdoor Resort for our first family scalloping adventure. I have always wanted to give scalloping a try and finally got a chance to make it over to Homosassa.

We started our trip with very little knowledge of the area other than head out the river and look for boats. We quickly found the boats and also got a few scallops. We started kind of deep in 6-8 feet and didn't really know what to look for but we still got a few dozen.
Since we were new to the area and in a 26' Twin Vee with twins engines (not a SKIFF) we made plans to head out the next day with a guide Red Ed. With a little run through some pretty skinny Ed quickly put us on the scallops. We spent the morning in the water at one spot and got our limit in a few hours in 3 feet of water.
After a busy morning on the water we headed up to the spring to cool off in the clear water.

The next day we got out on the water a little too late and it was too shallow to get back to the area that Ed took us so we found a new to us spot right out front of the river and got almost another limit in about 5-6 feet of water.

The entire family had a great time and being a very competitive bunch, everybody got their share of scallops. My kids are 7 and 10 and both did great. They are both great swimmers and can dive pretty deep for their ages but it didn't take much deep diving to find these things.

We will definitely be headed back next year and hopefully stay for a few more days. There is a lot of fun things to do in the area. I was hoping to do a little more fishing and possibly get offshore for some grouper but the family was having too much fun catching scallops.

Here is a short video of a scallop that did not want to be caught.
