Lagoon 6/28

I fished a few times this week in the middle lagoon. the water is deep and murky. in the morning topwater has worked well on both reds and trout and i caught my first red on a topwater fly earlier this week. there is some tailing going on if you can get shallow enough, and the one I caught on topwater was one of about 10 tailing fish in a group. I've caught a ton of trout, but the biggest only being 19in. for reds chartreuse and nuclear chicken plastics have been great in the dirty water. I also threw some cut mullet that worked really well. for flies, gurglers and EP baitfish. There are some massive reds in deeper water, but it has been hard to get a bite from them, I hooked 2 on thursday, one broke the leader the other pulled the hook. Hope you guys catch some this weekend :thumbsup

Nice fish as always. Thinking of putting in at the last canaveral ramp tomorrow morning. I haven't fished in like 3 weeks. Between working on a boat and trying to get some certifications done for work, I haven't even seen a fish in almost a month!
How was the wind today? I'm not going to fight it...I'm way over that lol

wind was a little annoying. it was breezy in the morning, slowed down for a little bit, then picked up again. it looks like tomorrow will be similar. but after 3 weeks I'd fish in a hurricane lol. compared to what we've had today was nothing unbearable. the mosquitos are whats unbearable right now :machinegun

Great looking fish, I envy you, for being able to fish weekdays. What pound tippet do you use? and do you use a bite, or shock at the end?

weekdays are amazing. sadly this will all change in august when I start daytime nursing classes :banghead
my fly leader goes - 40# 20# 15# in the winter when I was fishing in inches of crystal clear water I ended with 10#. if the fish are big I put a small piece of 20# at the end.

Oh and I saw recently on a thread you recommended the Lamson Konic. do you have any experience with that reel? I was looking into getting it because my orvis is all but busted and I never really liked it to begin with.

No, I was at Bass pro, and they have one in the reel case. I thought it was a fine reel, for the price. They also have a Sage 1680 I think it was $98.00. I think the Konic was $149.00. They both have what I think is a great drag, and both are sealed.

    Nice report.
I was there this past Thursday as well.
Fishing was slow at first, but then picked up in the afternoon. Ended up with 7 or 8 reds (biggest was 27") and a few trout (biggest was 22").

Might be back this week too. Depends on work and what my wife wants to do for the 4th.
