Computer issue

Not me thankfully.

Had a real good storm today and a friend had a Transformer blow near his house. Now his computer will fire up, but it appears the mouse and keyboard will not work. Monitor show the normal start up screen. Apparently they tried the mouse and keyboard on another machine and they worked fine. :huh.

Any ideas?

Desktop? Wired mouse and keyboard or wireless?

yes. He lost the 5V to the mouse/KB. Are they USB or the old PS/2? The old PS2 failures were common, for a while you could actually cause them 100% by plugging in the KB while the PC was on. If they aren't USB, try a USB. If they were he'll probably need a new USB card.

Depending on age of computer he may have two sets of USB. Tell him to try the front USB if he previously had them in back or vice versa.
