Anyone having spider issues?

I have killed atleast 3 Wolf Spiders around the house. My Girlfriend claims she saw a Brown Recluse (which I belive was a Wolf mis-identified). I just came in with the dog and found a Brown Widdow by the back door. It is time to get some serious spray out and get rid of these things.
Anyone have any experience with differant sprays or any suggestions on what and where to get rid of these things. I would be ok if they were snakes, but I can't handle spiders.
I am not the kind of person to hire a pest control person to do it, but I will if i have to. I would prefer to try doing it myself first, then if I can't suceed then I will resort to picking up the phone.
Thanks for any info you can pass along.
Kevin

Those brown widows are creepy! There are a ton at my work, an egg sack or two in every corner of every window. I've watched them eat some big critters!
From what I've read, and I read a lot about them since I first saw the bazillions of them at my office window, they are more toxic than a black widow but very reluctant to bite. But they tend to live in the little nooks and crannies where your fingers go when moving the lawn furniture, grabbing the kayak that has been leaning against the house, under the trash can lip - that's apparently when most folks get the jolt.
I don't have a spray recommendation, but I would explore that route before wacking them, just in case.

We have TONS of black widows, I mean TONS!! I can walk out right now and smash 10 without trying. I just moved to my NEW house and BAM...widows everywhere outside for now. Best thing to do is walk the property looking high and low, especially in nooks and cranies and smash 'em up. We find them in the kids yard toys too. Yea scary. Population seems to have decreased but we don't hunt them often enough.

On a serious note, Bengal is what I use. I have to get it at mom&pop hardware store. I have tons of bugs, cause I killed all the **** spiders.

Been seeing what I've always called Banana Spiders around the hood. Turns out they're harmless but I'm not taking any chances.

Nothing works quite like some 3M adhesive spray and a bic.

Funny I just read this thread a few minutes ago and I go into the bathroom and see a decent sized spider in the corner. Hit it with a shoe and a bunch of babies came out of it running around. Sprayed them with some Raid so hopefully they didn't live. I know most of them are harmless and I'm not really bothered by many things, but man spiders are creepy.

While I'm about the farthest thing there is from a spider expert, we had tons of them under our lanai and screened-in pool area for about the last 6 weeks. It got really bad so I power washed the hell out of all of them, then had our bug guy come and do his thing twice in the last few weeks. We are down to barely any now, so it might be worth calling the pros. I have a guy if you need one Kev. He's $55 every two months and also comes extra if needed free.

He's really good! And when you call between visits, he gets there ASAP! It's been well worth the $$$.

$55 / 2 months is worth it. Spiders can be troublesome to control on your own. For giggles Here's a brown widow avoidance behaviour vid i shot a few years ago when I was at UF entomology:

Well I have noticed that there have been lots of bugs around lately; flies, mosquitos, nats, etc... Maybe all those being around are having the spiders come out more often.

From my research, wolf spiders live outside underground/ in the grass. The ones you find inside are brown house spiders. They get mich bigger than wolf spiders.

    Hey Kevin,

You might check this out but according to several entomologists who I conferred with by email at the University of Florida, spiders cannot be killed simply by spraying or laying out bait.

If you are going to use a spray, they need to be hit directly to kill them.

For what it is worth.. I agree with Dave and Kim... call a professional before they get so bad you will with you had sooner.

Cheers buddy.. OH yeah.. it is 1:45am Thursday morning here in Tokyo and it is only 12:43pm Wednesday afternoon where you are..

    Can you say INSOMNIAC?
