Fishing St. Pete Beach?

Going to be on St. Pete Beach this weekend with the family but thought I might take a pole and sneak out at dawn for an hour or two before the crowds get crazy. Beach fishing isn't my normal game, any advice? Can bring castnet, etc... for live bait or lures, jigs, etc... Any guidance/tips would be greatly appreciated. What is happening on the beach right now?

Such a whiner. Bucktail jigs/DOA shrimp/Terror Eyes/Mirrordines, cast parallel to the shore, fan the next cast out a foot, repeat until you're casting straight out. Walk down to where your first cast landed and repeat. Take the cast net with you, you may be able to grab some whitebait early. If so, freeline them or place under a popping cork.
