This was the view as I was heading East on 45th St in West Palm Beach

When I reached the waterfront, the fire had died down, and this is what was left....

Hard to tell from the distance, but it looks like it could have been a 30'ish Ft boat, completely burned down to the water. Lots of fire boats and Towboat US around, but didn't look like they were spraying water on it....I guess it would have been a total loss anyway. Helicopters in the air and lots of news crews on the shorelines. Sucks for whoevers boat it is/was....hopefully they had insurance.*

RIVIERA BEACH — Palm Beach Post staff report

Two people on board a 50-foot boat have suffered burns after their boat caught fire in the Intracoastal Waterway off Peanut Island, officials said.

The extent of their injuries was not immediately known, but they have been taken to the hospital.

Rescue teams from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and Sheriff's Office, West Palm Beach police and U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene. But the fire was allowed to burn itself out.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Josh Smith said the people on the boat tried to start the boat and "it went up in flames."

Fire rescue was first dispatched to the scene around 10:45 a.m. after someone heard a loud explosion followed by a thick plume of black smoke rising into the air.

The boat, which sank, was is burning between the Sailfish Club and Peanut Island and just south of the Port of Palm Beach

Just curious, so I don't have a fire on my boat in the future. Want to make sure I can turn on the blower.

Yikes. Prayers to the injured. Burns suck.

Two men were severely burned Thursday morning when a 34-foot cabin cruiser exploded and burned in the waters off the Sailfish Club.

The Palm Beach Police Department responded at approximately 10:45 a.m. to reports of a burning vessel in the waters between the FPL plant and the Sailfish Club.

When Marine One arrived on the scene, they found the vessel “fully engulfed” and two men, described as Hispanic males between 20 and 40 years old, clinging to another vessel that had come to their aid.

When the men were pulled from the water, according to Sgt. Curtis Krauel, rescuers “noticed that both individuals were severely burned with life-threatening injuries.”

One of the men reportedly sustained third-degree burns across 40 percent to 60 percent of his body. Both were transported to the Sailfish Club property for triage, and were transported by ambulance to St. Mary’s Medical Center.

A Trauma Hawk helicopter, originally called to assist in transporting the most seriously burned victim, was unable to respond immediately because it was responding to an earlier incident.

West Palm Beach Fire-Rescue offered mutual aid at the scene and in transporting the second victim.

Streets around the Sailfish Club, including parts of North Lake Way, were closed to traffic as firefighters worked the scene. Witnesses were reporting thick black smoke billowing from the vessel south of Peanut Island.

The Coast Guard is on scene with the vessel, which is sinking.

The boat shrank 14'. A 50er would have had diesels.. low risk of explosion. 36er could be either.
Does St Mary's have a burn unit next to the crack baby delivery area?

I guess a case of the news outlet jumping the gun with misinformation, trying to be the first to report it. In my original post, I mentioned it looked 30'ish, although I was a good distance away. But that first article said 50'. It was burned to the waterline, but it sure didn't look like that much had burned away. Idiots. Lol

The news this morning said that one of the guys died from his burns/injuries. That sucks, especially if he had family.

Since it was hinted that this has the possibility of being an insurance job (obviously just speculation), I was wondering that if it was found to be the case, would the survivor be able to be charged with murder/manslaughter, since his death happened due to a crime being committed?
