I had a Hamby's added on a previous boat. No disadvantages and perfect for beaching situations. I got a black one even though my old boat was egg shell white. Black does not stain. Anyhow Hamby's is the gold standard and must be installed by a professional fiberglass shop. Other brands are DIY, but do not look as good IMO or hold up like a Hamby's.

Stay away from the DIY stuff. I bought one for my boat and followed the DVD instructions to the 'T'. About six months later it started peeling off.

Another option is to get Sarasota Line - X to spray on a keel guard. Brian can make it as narrow or wide as you want it and the stuff is really, really tough.
