Weekend Full of Fishing!

Night 1

We got the call from some buddy's that were coming down with their skiff and wanted to catch some fish. We start Friday night on the St.Lucie, pull up to a dull dark light while they are still rigging up and my 2nd cast under the light I get a 20 inch snook. Thinking its going to be a great night i start to troll down to the next light and the trolling motor shuts off and won't turn back on! We mess with the wires, but nothing happens. We continue to fish the lights(now using the 90hp motor to get from place to place) and pick up some jacks and ladyfish but nothing worth while. Snook were popping everywhere though, just couldn't get that quiet approach that we needed. We call it a night and say that we will hit the river early in the morning...

Day 1

We meet up at the Jensen Beach Causeway and put in, I notice the boat's taking on a lot of water as we idle out. What was forgotten? The plug... But we get back and put it in. We start to fish our way down some mangroves setting up a drift(remember: no trolling motor) and pick up a couple trout, jacks and ladyfish. We fish the day in the strong north winds without much of anything but set up one last drift on a new set of mangroves and finally get into them! We pick up 15 trout in our last 45 mins. Having to leave a little early for a poker party that night.(Which we would not get home from until 2am) So we figure we will give it another shot in the morning.

Day 2

We decide to go up north, knowing it's going to be windy again. So we start to fish and I immediately hook into a nice fish. Only to have it pull off. We drift across a cove and pick up a few fish here and there. Then i hook into what feels like a redfish, but turns out to be an over slot trout with a dorsal fin missing! We anchor here and pick up another 10 trout and some jacks and ladyfish as well. We continue to fish down but it's slow, picking up a few nice trout every now and then. Were not able to work the mangroves well without a trolling motor and our guests have a 3 hour ride home so we call it a day around 12:30. All in all not a terrible weekend of fishing given the circumstances.
