Jamie alerted us to the fact that he caught a sail we tagged 3 years ago! (thanks)
Amazing that Jamie was the man who also re-captured the sail with wedding ring on bill years ago!
Jamie Artzt aboard the "Pineapple" just reported a recaptured sailfish!
The sailfish was originally tagged off of Palm Beach on January 23, 2009 on "Reel Diamond" and was recaptured 1,122 days later on February 19, 2012 off of Key Largo. Although, the sailfish was recaptured only 120 miles from where it was originally tagged, this was probably only a small portion of it's entire migration. Where else do you think this sailfish has spent time?
Details from Jamie:thumbsup
Eric:
Here was the email from billfish foundation, have the guys check with them on getting shirts. They have a small press release up on their facebook site. The fish was caught by me, on my boat Pineapple, a 33T Contender out of Key Largo . We were fishing between French Reef and Dixie Shoals, right off my house, it is always good in there with south wind like we had on Sunday. I was with my fishing buddy Eric Bartos and his son Brennen. Sorry, no pictures of the fish, it was too hectic trying to get the tag off when it came up, still very green on the leader when we saw the tag. Fish was med-large size, in the 55-60 # range I would say. Fought like they do with corner mouth hook up (j-hook even…) and was released swimming away. Ate a gog on the long kite in 160’ water. Fun day with a big wahoo, several big kings, couple dolphin, another sail and bottom rod action. Tagged sail made it all the more special.
Keep up the reports, you always have good ones. I used to post many reports (the ringfish story was mine) but don’t seem to have time or motivation for it much anymore. If you are every down in key largo and need some (weekender) local knowledge, let me know, I have had my boat down there for 3 years now and have it mostly figured out!

PLANE FISH N
Not this fish, I caught it after Reel Diamond crew tagged it in 2009.
I think the tagging program should help everyone realize that recreational anglers are catching the same fish, sailfish or otherwise. It underscores how important it is to handle fish as carefully as possible, only kill what you intend to eat or use as bait and release everything else. This was the 3rd tagged sail I have caught, 4th if you count the ringfish that Eric B caught on my boat, this fishing for them only a couple times a month during the season.
E-money - thanks for the post.
I finally just got my info on the tagged sailfish I caught in November
