Cancun info

My girlfriend has a condo in cancun. i have been once before and was in college and could not afford to do much besides snorkle off the beach around a small reef I stumbled upon.

We will be going back for a long weekend, a buddy of mine and his old lady will be joining us.
I am looking for a good charter for the money. I would love to catch a bill fish, I dont know much about the bottom species there. Are there roosters, cuberas, groupers etc in the area? If so wouldnt mind a bottom fishing charter also.

Another idea I was thinking of was:
Renting a kayak and bringing a couple heavier rods, is it possible to catch bfts mahi etc a mile or so from the beach on a kayak?

Can anyone reccoemnd a backcountry charter? I would be interested in this as well, permit snook tarpon etc?
Or a spearfishing charter?

I have a lot of possibilities I would like to try, just looking for some input from anyone that has done it...

not alot of fishing out of cancun,because the water doesn't get deep till your way out. you spend most of the time comming and going out to the gulf. go south for a day or two to our island, cozumel. super fishing this time of the year. pm me for any details you my want.

Look for a charter on isla mujueres. Very close to cancun and the sailfish bite is good.

DH is correct. The sailfish bite there is the best in the world in Jan\Feb. It's nothing to catch 20-30 in a day trolling dead bait and I've heard as many as 70+ being caught in a day before. Fished 2 days there last year and caught 56.
