This will be my first of many reports as I am new to the forum.
I Have fished in the Tampa, Sarasota and Venice for about 6 years now and I love it more and more every time I go out. I do more offshore than anything but I still like to do some inshore (when its windy and I cant get offshore....lol) for snook, reds and tarpon.
So heading south west out of big pass at 5am friday we are "Planning" on doing some offshore trolling for Tuna, wahoo and dolphin after about an hour and a half of crusing we reached out starting point in 115ft of water and I set out our trolling pattern. I am running a 5 spread from a 19"4 center console, after about an hour of watching flyers all over the place my my right short wahoo rod starts to scream....... 3min later a 20lb Kingfish goes into the fish box.
I set the spread out again, about an hour goes by and I see some commotion going on behind my squid teaser, something does not look right so I check my left short lure and its a cut off and I lost 3 squids from my teaser....(DARN!)
At 11am we are in 160ft of water with only a kingfish in the box we decide to look for the highly endangered species of Red Snapper. So we picked up all the trolling gear and decided to cruise around and look for some good bottom. After about 2 hours of cruising around and hitting test spots with nothing to show for it, I see what looks like fireworks on the bottom finder as we are cruising at 28kts . I scroll back and mark the spot on the GPS, we turn the boat around for a better look and JACKPOT!!! About 6 drifts later we were limited out of 6 red snapper, 6 Red grouper and missed a nice cobia. Largest of the Grouper weighed 24Lbs and biggest snapper was 13lbs, not bad for a new spot. With the boat full we make the long run back home.
All in all was a good day, wished the tuna and wahoo would come out and play but maybe next time!

@Circle Hooked.... Yeah we have been out 60 miles a several times but I think 70 miles would be our safe max but we like to stay in the 30-50 mile range.
