OK, I need to rent some long(er) glass...

Is there somewhere in FL I can rent a 400 2.8 or a 500 4?

The place in Orlando doesn't carry the big stuff for Nikon.

Will I have to bring in the "bazooka glass" from out of state?

Thanks for those in the know.

When you want to shoot in the (need) dark you need 2.8.

    1. Nesting pairs of Osprey, Eagles and Herons at the ends of the day.

    2. Painted Buntings and Red Headed Woodpeckers that like to hide in the palmettos (dark) and just under the canopy of Oaks and Cabbage Palms.

The buntings and Red Heads are particularly shy - staying away is good. And I can't get close (enough) to the Eagles nest.

For the Buntings and Red Heads (this one is an immature) this is the best I can do with my 300 f4. As you can see I have to manipulate the files too much and crop in too closely - I need more magnification and and a brighter lens for a long weekend.

I will probably need to hire a Sherpa too - LOL!

    Craig,
you've got some pretty good images with what you have...
of course i'm looking at them on a 22" wide screen...

my bride and i were out on horn island new years eve (12-31-11, it's a tradition to be on an island)....
the park ranger that lives out there came by (fog was thick, maybe 100yds) to check on the island...
she told us that there was a pair of eagles nesting at the island crossing near the ranger station and the area was closed to the public...

however, she and her companion ranger (no relationships) which we know would allow us access to do photography (nice to know people)....
so tomorrow, if the wind and seas have layed down, we will see what we can see...

    germ:

Thanks. I agree good prices but they aren't in FL and they don't have the long stuff.

I can't find an FL source for the long glass so I guess I'll do biz with these folks.
