Final 401K Results for 2011.
Just checked my 401K after the last trading day of the year. While my overall balance is up due to my contributions and company match, the return on my investments came in at -0.67%.
So here is looking forward to a much better 2012, I will be 4 years from planned retirement come June 1.
How did the rest of you with 401Ks do?

Been a long year, like standing in quicksand.
Could be worse!

Would have been alot better if UTX would have held there ground.
The only way it can be worse is if Obama stays another term................

It is the best you can hope to get back after handing $500k to
to a Wall St cross-roading, front-running, flim flam shop.
Congrats. Wish I was able to do that, but being the only income here at the house has me happy to be able to contribute at all sometimes.
I'm also only 34 so I have some time as well.
I just wish I was 34 again and could max out.
Guys I'm retired now and all I can say is, if you can max your 401k, do it. Find the money somewhere. I screwed up and didn't think about retirement until I was 50. I'm doing well, but it could have been alot better.
My dad drives the same message home to me, fortunately I see how my parents are able to enjoy their "later" years, they travel, have a boat they are able to spend a lot of time on, and spoil their (my daughter) granddaughter. My wife complains about the amount we save, but she is quickly realizing how important it is.
And that right there is what it's all about. When your young it's easy to live from pay check to pay check. If you would just put 10%, 15%, or even 20% away and never touch it until you are ready to retire, you would smile every day of your retired life.
Same here!!!! I haven't invested in the stock market since 2002. I'd can think of 10 better investments
Please name 10 better investments that beat the tax shelter and (often) employer matching of a 401k.
