The piece illustrates there are preconceived biases of the African American community. The gentlemen speaking agree on this point and feel it is up to them to discredit these biases by over preforming and achieving. This is an old trope” to prove to them you are equal you must be twice as good”.

I took liberties with the twice as good comment. But he did say he felt the reason he was not picked to be on the quiz bowl team was because he was black. People had a preconceived notion that he would not be good at it because he was black. Those built in preconceived notions are the problem.

Without more information to give context to the situation, his allegation can’t be proven or disproven. It could just as easily be like the short kid that doesn’t get picked for the basketball team. All you’re told is that he’s short and he didn’t get picked. Nobody told you that he’’s also pigeon toed and runs a 6.4 40….. or that he can’t dribble.

But we know that none of that is true.
Some people hate you because of your gender....can you believe that?

Letting that slow you down is an excuse.

I was told in high school by my black coach, in front of my dean, that the college scouts had preconceived notions that black kids were better athletes.

That must be why I'm driving a boat instead of living large on a NFL pension...

I prefer to stay away from Snakes .

To me it's simply that I'm Proud to be White and I think the White race is the best race this Earth has ever seen.
Now there's other good races but some of even them races have bad folks.
As a whole is how folks tend to judge races.
Having said that this White Supremist dated a Black gal back in the day.
She was cool and real pretty but it just didn't work out.

Should be a short conversation,, I'd just point at the Empire State building and Mud huts and say let's compare.
Maybe point out little things like Computers , Putting a man on the Moon , Modern Medicine as compared to rattling bones and burning cow dung... You know , Simple easy to understand stuff..
