Id say it has its roots in the attitude that grew decades ago in society that animals are more than just what they are. They are animals. Instead of flushing that unwanted Lionfish down the toilet or chopping the head off an ever growing Iguana or Python, owners of these pets set them free in the wild to live life. 

Secondarily, the WMDs and FWC should have opened up 24/7 hunting immediately.

I hear the big ones got Mercury in them . Marco Island / Glades and Keys got a bunch of Iguanas running around...I've ate a few of them.
Good stuff but it ain't a bucket of KFC.

There is no solution but it would help if people were encouraged to kill them instead of taking pictures and calling the local brain dead on the TV news. Yes Johnny I know you like snakes but I am talking about something that just shouldn't be here
