Are you sure insurance covers all of it? Medivac helicopter ride out of the woods?  Venomous snakebite is a big deal and $150 snakeboots are a pretty hedge. Are just what is everyone wearing on their feet trhat is so "cool and comfortable" on their feet? Snake boots are a complete waste of time.....

I never said I got bit through snake boots... I have never worn them..
I do not know where you came up with that part????

Hence my comment they were a waste of time.

Frankly.... To each their own... I mostly like getting you going. As well as a couple of other people.

I have a friend that got bitten by a copperhead grabbing a few sticks off his woodpile for a campfire.  Prolly 10 years ago.  Ins paid most of his 143k hospital bill.  He was off work for 5months and almost lost his hand.
Glad you friend is OK but there are 2 more good reasons to wear snake boots besides cost, even if paid by insurance.

Seems to me that gaiters would be lighter, cooler and more comfortable than high top boots.  I wear mine (not snake proof) on every hike - to keep grass seeds and kicked up debris out of my socks and boots.`

A couple of days ago, I must've stepped tight to a sharp rock - there's a 1" cut in the side of the ball of my foot in my light, ankle height hikers.  I took a curved needle and heavy thread and tried a "make it work" repair and was astonished at how hard it was to get the heavy needle thru that Gore-Tex.  Had to use pliers.  Might make good material for snake proofing....or is it already the method of choice ??

Ill preach all the time about wearing snake boots. Not from personal experience from being struck (cause its never happened) but from the sense of well being it gives me while I dont look where I step. I grew up wearing them Quail hunting and you dont walk slow and look down. Mine are comfortable, waterproof, and make my feet sweat. Has nothing to do with being "skeert" of snakes. You do you.

You should probably wear your seat belt too.....

IMHO Johnny B is a keyboard bully who revels in calling people ignorant, yes it has happened more than once. The moderators on here needs to reel him in before someone cashes one of the checks that he writes, again my opinion.

The offer is still open by the way....  I am going to start spending some time over there, I have a couple of out of state trips coming up. After that like in June I am going to spend some time over there......

You are always welcome....  As much fun as I am on the forum, imagine how entertaining I am riding around in a truck....

BTW do you want some pork chops?

You need some help... Just because someone kills rattlesnakes and has snake skin boots.... Does not mean they are skeert...  Lots of folks have rattlesnake boots... does not mean you are skeert.... It just means that at some point you were ignorant.... I was ignorant at some point as well....

You are still in a triggered and woke mode.... Chill bro.... Let me send you some pork chops..... You will regret not having these chops.

Nancy boys? Maybe. Don’t know enough about them.

    Knuckleheads? Definitely.

Not sure many here are trying to catch snakes when they go into the woods. JB and Grizz would be the exceptions to that.

If you’re trying to catch a snake, you are among those most likely to be bitten. If you’re trying to avoid them rather than catch them, your chances of being bitten drop to almost zero.

To each their own, but for me, there isn’t enough risk to make me to want to skip the comforts of my normal footwear.

yes people that actively seek out snakes are most often the ones that are bitten.
And nearly everyone that I know that engages in that behavior and has been bitten, get bit on their hands, arms etc,  The issues really start when you pick them up

Good lord I guess Ill have to write an explanation with every post - you see, the guys in the pit are wearing snake proof boots or chaps. But according to JB the boots are a waste of time and they must be "Nancy boys" and are scared of snakes. So why are they wearing them then? Carry on....

well if any of them go on this website or any other ones where mr bandit posts his opinions its very obvious why they wear those tall boots          mr bandit talks a lot of bullspit     and its deep .

Now you are adding another spin on the situation....

Entering a "pit" full of rattlesnakes at a roundup or similar event is a completely different situation.

A person that enters such a pit is surrounding themselves with a number of stressed out and highly agitated snakes.  Both the person and the snakes are in a confined space

That is just not a situation a person is going to find themselves in while in the woods.

    Keep trying

By the way they heavily milk those snakes before they put them in the pits and do other performances with them at roundups.  Milking them does not make them 100 percent safe. Because you cannot reliably extract all the venom.  But the chances of getting a really hot (High venom load) bite from a roundup snake, is pretty low.

Has absolutely nothing to do with snake proof boots being "a waste of time"

Quit spreading falsehoods - if they didnt work those guys would not all be wearing them.

As a "supposed" expert you are putting people in danger.

I do wear my snake chaps in hot weather, most of the time when hunting or rambling solo. If I forget them it’s not a big deal. I’m actually more interested in watching out for the cypress knees where I spend so much of my time. I’ve had a lot of up close and personal encounters with venomous snakes and non-venomous snakes over the years. My buddies and I used to snake hunt when we were in HS catching snakes for a herpetologist. It was fun and educational. Snakes are something I’ve grown very comfortable being around and as a result my grandkids and other family members are learning about them. I do keep my eyes open around the yard and wooded area in case Mr. Rattler makes an appearance. At my home he doesn’t get a pass. At his home he gets a pass.
On the woods roads and in the “outback” I may take a pic but I stay out of their space. My summer rambling footwear is a simple comfortable pair of Wolverine work boots or hiking boots.
When rambling (as somewhat of a naturalist) I stay tuned looking for everything that moves, blooms or sounds off.
    To each his own
