Why I wear snake boots

I don’t like staring at my feet while in the woods, but after stepping on the first one and see two more I am probably going to pay a little more attention. But when close to an 8 mile boat ride and another mile in the woods you would be hard pressed to get to where help could get to you with out having any kind of  permanent Damage.

I don’t kill any of them. I figure I’m out in its bedroom so I give it some room and go around. Now if I get bit or find one in the yard at the house it is another story.

I've been Everywhere in the Glades and all over the Big Bend for years.
Miles of Swamps...Never even owned Snake Boots.
Watch your feet and Man Up. Them snakes don't want nothing to do with you either.
You should try wading the swamps at night frogging...now that will make a man out of you...

nothing about manning up or not. I am a Florida boy born and raised. An spent a many of nights running behind a set of **** hounds or hog dogs. Maybe as I get older and know I have responsibilities and a family to care for I just don’t go out asking for trouble as I once did, but I also carry health insurance for when it does happen.

I don’t use them because they’re hot but know many who do. Do whatever makes you feel comfortable enough to get out there and enjoy yourself.

I do not use them because I am not a skeert little nancy..... And while other folks avoid snakes, I seek them out.... Snake boots are a waste of time...

I prefer to wear the same shoes in the woods that I wear every other day. Just regular leather work boots. Comfortable to me. Most of the snake boots I’ve seen were “thinsulated” with a cordura or similar exterior almost to your knee. No thanks on either count, for me. 

I’ll see the occasional venomous snake in the woods and just go around them and go on. Usually seen while walking but I did have a coral come by once while I was sitting on the ground in an oak hammock.

I got the lightest and most comfortable pair I could find. You can't always have your head down watching your feet if your looking for game and have to look forward for the easiest path.

NO... I am not sure insurance covers it all... But I have an annual out of pocket maximum of 1K

Snake boots are a complete waste of time.....

What I do know... is that you need to grow up and set aside your irrational fears...

I always laugh at those who say "if you wear snake boots youre scared of snakes"!  Its not about that. My LaCrosse 4X Alpha Snake boots are just as comfortable as any other high top waterproof boot so whay not wear them?  I put over 10 miles on them over the weekend but OMG! - my feet got sweaty. 

I also wear a PFD while running the duck boat. Usually people say "Why? Cant you swim?". My response is its because of 3 incidents close to me and 2 of them resulted in fatalities. Not good stories.

I don’t wear them, too hot and bulky.  That and where I hunt snakes are few and far between.  I think it’s the abundance of hogs.  I haven’t worn snake boots since I grew out of size 9 hand me downs in about 1980. Have not seen the need.

I have a friend that got bitten by a copperhead grabbing a few sticks off his woodpile for a campfire.  Prolly 10 years ago.  Ins paid most of his 143k hospital bill.  He was off work for 5months and almost lost his hand.

I never said I got bit through snake boots... I have never worn them..
I do not know where you came up with that part????

Hence my comment they were a waste of time. 

Frankly.... To each their own... I mostly like getting you going. As well as a couple of other people. 


People should do and use whatever tools. (Including snake boots) That makes them feel safe and keeps them in the woods.   I let doctors, family friends  etc keep me out of the woods and off the water for four years. .
