Groundhog Day on the Withlacoochee

I haven’t fresh water fished for about a month or so.  I was doing so poorly, I decided to focus on cool weather yard work and various chores.  With the recent warm up, I though the bass might turn on a little bit.  I was right, they turned on a “little” bit.  It was a good day, not phenomenal but good.  What I lacked in quantity I made up in quality.

I launched at Turner Camp ramp in Inverness and ran up river a couple of miles to a shallow area with a lot of Duckweed.  In a particular narrow spot that has previously produced, I picked up my first fish at 17”.  I moved to the main body of the river and boated a couple of 12”-14” bass, lost a couple of little ‘uns and delt with several F!%$#*G Bowfin.

I moved down river to the mouth of a spring run.  The fallen trees are still blocking the entrance so I could only go 100 yrd up the run.  Under one of the assaulting fallen trees I picked up a 20” bass. Ahhh….made my day.

Water temperature was 69-70.  River level has dropped about a foot or so since I last fished.  All fish were caught on plastic worms.  All were released.
