Late post 30 Dec Goodland

With Ian taking out Caxambas Marina, had to look for better options than Bayview in Naples. Took a recon drive to Goodland to scope out the ramp, parking, etc. on Dec 29th. Everything looked to be Ok. Got there about 11am and there were parking spaces available, a few boats docked and people milling around. With that, decided to go the next day.
Launched on the 30th about 7:15. Plenty of parking and no Ramp Rookies clogging the process. Asked a couple guides the best route to Cape Romano and got good results. Took the drive to the Morgan River and me the GF throwing white bucktails, blue jerk-baits and smoke/chartruese grubs, managed to catch 30-some ladyfish to 24"inches and 25-some trout right at 14". We did get 1 @ 16" and 1 @ 17" keepers for some New Years sammiches. Went to a few other spots and came up empty. Back towards Goodland, explored a few islands and points. Did not catch anything but saw areas which in the spring, summer, fall, should hold snook and other goodies. At the ramp, fish cleaning station was away from the water and had to use the provided buckets for the entrails, heads, etc. Not a bad thing and saw the same in Key West a few weeks earlier. Cleaned the trout, loaded the boat and that was it! Not a bad experience and most certainly will return as its suppsed to be 3-9 months before Caxambas reopens. Due to work, it'll be another 7-10 days before another trip. Sorry for the doctoral thesis. Just wanted to give the details. Enjoy the 10K area and be safe!
