It's been a few months and finally got out Saturday. Wanted to go to Caxambas Ramp but Ian had different ideas. Launched @ sun-up with 73f water. Out to rocks lining Gordon Pass. Throwing topwaters, large ladyfish almost everycast. Switched to bucktails and jerkbaits and got a few small jacks, mackerel, sailcats and numerous lizardfish. LOTS of smaller baitfish around, so threw one nice pancake and a few hundred shiners. Those will be used to chum in the winter. Back to fishing and the girlfriend hooks a good fish and proceeds to toss her 24" snook into the boat, bucktail jig. Took a short ride to the Naples Pier. Day-um! That thing got cratered. Did see one boat throw the net and he almost needed a winch to get it over the gunnel. A few (5) snowy egrets landed on boat so we fed them a couple shiners. I had just waxed my outboard and the egrets could not stand/grip as the cowling was way too slick for them. Pretty comical watching them try to get a grip. Back to the rocks to fully ascertain why I do not like fishing near Naples Bay......Sooooooo many boats. Large wakes, small wakes, no wake zone, full throttle zones and did I mention the # of boats? Hopefully Collier County will take the steps needed to get Caxambas open. I fully understand there are more pressing issues. Maybe next time I'll take the time and launch and explore from Goodland. It was nice to get back on the water. Be safe out there and enjoy fishing where we do!
