I wonder if they will extend this into federal water?  I don't know what everyone else is seeing but gags seem to be everywhere.

Pretty sure the Fed is the lead on this and the state is just falling in. A#1 had mentioned something about this coming, he's probably more knowledgeable than most of us on what's happening in the GOM.

I believe this FWC rule change is to align the state season with the new Fed season. With the price of gas and everything else you might as well find a new hobby. Bottom fishing in the Gulf is looking like it will become a thing of the past, unless you like to target grunts. But just wait, that will be shut down too in the next few years too.

Does this apply to the commercial fisherman too? I find it hard to believe me taking 2 gags a couple of times a year is overfishing when they go and bring in hundreds of pounds at a time.

    do some research

I am glad to only be a bird hunter with bird dogs...being a shooter or dog handler or whatever other niche exists to separate appears to generate far too much about which to worry.

seriously, why don't some of y'all pay attention when changes may affect your fishing instead of coming on here and spewing bs?

    unless you're trolling?

I wish they would have backed it up until October, November and the first ten days of December.

FWC can't manage a thing. not even 15 yrs ago 5 was the limit. Was just looking at pics of niece and nephew visiting and we all limited out was in march or april. Lame, lame , lame that they've lost grip of the fishery in the short of time.  Same could be said about the redfish and trout. Cobia appears to be another management blunder (but might be more involved than just mismanagement). Used to catch lots of tripletail, not sure whats up there.

do you even see the sheer numbers of boats fishing gag in state waters, or tripletail?

It's not an easy pill to swallow. I don't like it. Too large of a reduction all at once.

tell that to Greg Runkel when the IFQ's first came out and he ended up with 19% of his catch history and pretty much put him out of business.

    That's the bitter pill.

Instead of just limiting it to hurricane season.

Art called it quite a while ago, he pays attention. Not ideal timing for me but I’ll make it work.
