Ding Darling shore fishing and captiva beach

GavGav Posts: 13 Deckhand
Very hot and humid day today. Wasn't able to catch any keepers. Saw large fish jumping on the far shore. Possibly Tarpon. Don't know how to fish this place. Live shrimp on a carolina kept getting taken by toad fish that would run into a hole or branch and I would lose hook or catch him. They dont really give much indication on the rod tip either. Tried running a shrimp down the current under drainage but they would get eaten up right away by small fish. Caught a small mangrove snapper and sheephead 6".  Tried a jig and some artificial but no bites. Lots of very large mullet and needle fish. maybe try a float next time. Any recommendations? I dont Kayak. People would drive up park with the car on and throw a few casts and leave is that normal? Don't go there unless you have a ton of bug spray this time of year

Captiva Beach last week. Blind pass is closed indefinetly due to erosion and Turner was full at 7 am. Extremely crowded and annoying kids/adults bothering you everytime anything happens. Only small blacktips and whiting were caught. Saw a huge snook about 2' from shore cruising through in the morning .followed by a Dolphin. Of course a large crowd is running after it and harassing it the whole time. Lots of Manatees. I wont be fishing there again. too many people

Haven't been down there in a while.  Started seeing the erosion mid to late May and new it was going to be trouble.  Not surprised they closed it.  Were those big trees still there near the BP parking lot? They seemed in the line of fire from erosion and ready to fall.

Is BP pretty filled in or is there still a navigable channel?

Generally curious: How does Turner get extremely crowded if the only place to park is Turner? Do people get dropped off somewhere else. There's not that many parking spots at Turner.

Trees and channel is still there but there but the sand keeps moving so dont know what the depth is at any one point. Seems like there is a pretty large sandbar just off the outlet.
People just drop people off in there clown cars.
