St Lucie or Ft Pierce inlet?

Hello, was wanting to trailer down from St Augustine to your area with the family to try getting into some dolphin without going 50 miles out.  Will be in a 23' center console and was wondering which inlet is easiest to get thru for a first timer?  Any help would be greatly appreciated..  was thinking of staying at the Hutchinson Island Marriott.  Any other recommendations would be great.  Thanks for any help!

Welp, it depends. Stuart can be tricky on an outgoing tide especially with easterly winds, but it is closer to where would find dolphin.
Ft. Pierce is a  deeper inlet but you have to run farther out.
    This is from weather.gov
The approximate location of the west wall of the Gulf Stream

16 nautical miles east of Saint Lucie Inlet

The St. Lucie Inlet is much closer to the Marriott and Mahi than Ft. Pierce.  I think St. Lucie Inlet is a piece of cake after navigating Haulover Inlet, Hillsboro Inlet, and Boca Inlet.  Just don't be shy on the throttle, you might have to push it to get on top of some waves or with a following sea.  If you are an experienced Captain, no problem, it is wide open straight out, no sandbars, etc.

Thanks for the info,  really appreciate it.   st Lucie sounds like the place.

The objective factual answer is the Ft. Pierce inlet by a long shot, but also during the summer particularly the StLucie inlet is no issue, closer to your place, and I would guess typically closer to the fish.
