I fished PP four or five months ago but recently did a spur of the moment trip (last week) and found out the road was closed. I drove all the way down to see what was being worked on. They ripped out all the vegetation along the impoundment levee (both the impoundment side and river side) and are grading the road along the entire impoundment. I'm not sure if that has to do with the avian influenza outbreak mentioned on there website but that was a fun area to fish. Taking out the vegetation kinda ruins that spot now. I get it if it's for the outbreak but if it isn't, I don't understand why they would do that?
Website LinkPer the MIWR site:Peacocks Pocket Road will remain closed until work is completed on the Peacocks Pocket impoundment levee. Work is not anticipated to be complete before November 2022.
Avian Influenza Outbreak
The refuge is currently experiencing an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). The disease primarily affects waterfowl, but may affect many other bird species. If you find dead or sick birds on the refuge, please do not handle them or attempt rescue.

Levy was damaged a couple years ago during hurricane. Hasn’t been useable since.
stop in and ask refuge folks instead of guessing? They are real nice.
