hard to tell where the boundary is if you're a guy who fishes between edgewater and ponce. Googled for a bit and couldn't find an actual latitude or landmark, just the color coded map of the whole state.
"At its May meeting, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved proposed management regions and regulation changes for redfish in state waters."
It wont take affect until later in the year but it is happening...
At the meeting they said they do one species at a time. Black drum and seatrout are next. Once they get on this list they will automatically be banned for commercial harvesting. They should have done this 10 years ago to protect what little fish remain in the IRL.
Should do the same thing with seatrout...including taking it off commercial hit list.
hit list? you're delusional. Y'all catch 97%, sportos are the problem.
I am glad to only be a bird hunter with bird dogs...being a shooter or dog handler or whatever other niche exists to separate appears to generate far too much about which to worry.

All fish in the IRL should be C & R until they can show 10K acres of seagrass that regrew... No comms till then either....
isn't the commercials fault you bastids overfished, all this was supposed to be fixed with the net ban, time y'all feel some pain and leave the folks y'all f u cked over alone.

I've know a few comms that went charter captain and now keep making money on the same fish over and over and over. Can't stay in the past, world is moving fast and changes have to take place. Including putting up with a 1000+- minus people moving into Florida everyday.
A#1 seems like he has an agenda here. Of course the gamefish should be c&r only.
of course I do, to hold the recs accountable for their destructive overfishing.

Interesting proposal, I dont hate it and I live on the ICW in the IRL. Personally, I wouldn't eat anything out of the IRL (except maybe near the inlets) the way it looks in recent decade.

At its May meeting, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved proposed management regions and regulation changes for redfish in state waters.
The proposed rule changes would:
Modify the redfish management regions.
Prohibit captain and crew from retaining a bag limit when on a for-hire trip.
Reduce the off-the-water transport limit from six to four fish per person.
Increase the bag limit for the Big Bend region from one to two fish per person
Reduce the eight-fish vessel limit in each of the proposed management regions:
Panhandle, Big Bend, Northeast: four fish.
Tampa Bay, Sarasota Bay, Charlotte Harbor, Southwest, Southeast: two fish.
Allow only catch-and-release fishing for redfish in the Indian River Lagoon region.
“With this new management approach, this agency is committed to continuing to work with our partners and stakeholders in finding solutions for redfish” said FWC Chairman Rodney Barreto.
Staff plans to continue to gather input on the proposed rules and will return to the Commission for a Final Rule Hearing later this year.

The * habitat* is the issue.... Notice how in some areas of our state...they * increased* the bag limit. That said...this is all FWC can do... they are not going to fix the lagoon...they can't.
Also...this was mostly driven by guides...they have a financial stake in there being a few reds left to catch....for those poor tourists that don't know that the system ( IRL) is almost dead.
There are many roads to travel
Many things to do.
Knots to be unraveled

The habitat was supposed to be getting improved because of the tax you all voted for. Grew up here and know better. The fishery ain't going to get better than what it was or is now and the money will always be spent on other agendas. Development is out of control in FL. Closing Red Drum in the entire IRL is extreme. FWC "science" is bought and sold obviously.

Too little for too long and now too much too late. As duck said the IRL is almost dead. Look around the planet is almost dead and yet we will spend billions to explore space while pissing and sh%$#@ all over the house in which we live instead of cleaning up what was once a really beautiful creation by our God. We don't deserve what he gave us.

Too true. Very sad and disappointing. I'm not there yet, but the thought has crossed my mind that at what point does continuing to fish nowadays become somewhat in poor taste?
like playing fetch with a dog dying of cancer - playing fetch probably isn't going to make it die any faster, but at what point do you just let it rest out of respect
