Grouper Opening Day

My brother was bringing his boat back from Marathon today and first tried some grouper trolling on the reef then hit a bunch of spots in deeper water.  All he got was a small king.  Anyone try for grouper today? (not spearfishing)

I went out of Plantation Sunday, ran north to outside of Conch Reef, just next to some big floating platform in about 70 feet of water. Anyone know what it is? Anyway, got beat up for an hour by the "2 foot seas" and decided to call it. No grouper.

The platform is part of the NOAA Aquarius Reef Base structure that is used for research.

we went out yesterday morning two boats my buddy worked the 40 foot depth reefs and I worked the shallow patch's about 3 to 4 hours and zero strikes. they are probably gone from the shallows until the end of the year when the water cools down. on the plus side we ran out to 300 ft found a slick  with a few scattered weeds and picked off 3 nice Schooley's headed back in by noon to hot out.

Three of us fished hard yesterday with excellent live baits.  Hit several spots that have produced in the past from 120' to 240'.  No bites.
