So, I haven't been bonefishing since before Covid. I decided to go to Andros. Used Yellowdog Outfitters, and chose Da Bay Area Lodge. Has anyone every been there? Thanks.
I booked with Yellow Dog for Andros and they were excellent. Hooked me up with North Andros Fly Fishing , Captain Phillip Rolle. Great operation, real value, been back 3 times. Your fly box covers what I think you'll need. I tied a box full of flies and ended up never using anything but a #4 bead chain Gotcha in tan. Got 19 on one fly in a day and a half till a cuda chopped it off. Always good to be prepared though. Our fishing was all wading shallow as is my preference but never got to west side for bigger bones and tarpon due to wind. Your location looks like you'll have varied habitat so your collection may come in real handy. BTW, same # 4 tan bead chain Gotchas was all I needed in Grand Bahama, Treasure , and Eluthera. But it's fun to have a killer fly box.
#1 and #2 White Clousers about 3" long bring cutter to trim length, as needed and three different weights light medium heavy...big bonefish deeper water unless a singleton coming out of mangroves falling tide and good luck light clouser soft land about four feet in front like mini tarpon hope she tracks...just a slow bump tight and slow ...I never could do it on that situation Andros... plenty of 5-9 though North Bight and Ocean flats Big Wood...my three double digits were late in me 60ies Biscayne Bay with late Cordell aka Bonefishwhisperer sighted then guess where they were going then cast again like a rolling Tarpon in stained water...you're at the end of the line around the corner its like the Bights lots of islands...good fishing ...have you been there during May June before ...it's doctor flies time...me I use treated clothing with the buzzoff chemical...get the spray at basspro treat some cheap cotton or polyester then pitch when coming home...flying direct Congo Town via Watermakers out of FLL Executive??
I fished North Andros with Phillip Rolle a few years ago. Had a good trip, though the weather was awful. Cold, dark, windy, and rainy every day. It's the reason I no longer go on destination trips in December, January, February- even to Key West or Bahamas. I've been freezing twice in January. I actually just looked- this was March!
Fleece and raincoat is not a good bonefish look.
I think I used the same fly as you.
He was a wonderful guide, and I am very glad I got to experience the classic Joulters with him. It was a delight to be on a boat with him.
Sadly, I think he passed away from Covid during these last few years.
yes going out of Ft. Lauderdale on Watermakers. I was at South Andros Lodge a few years ago, had a nice trip, mostly smaller bonefish. I'd like to get a shot at some big ones. We fished the creeks on the first two days, then ran south on the third. This trip I will be starting farther south.
I'm sure Clousers work well on bonefish. I seem to recall a fisherman on this forum years ago who said the only thing he ever fished with was pink Clousers.
