Arrived 2 hrs before sunrise at my usual spot off NE 16st, to find the beach closed due to construction. After finding an alternative launch location, I made it on the water by 5:30 am. Bait fishing was horribly slow. No Goggle Eyes or Blue Runners along the beach, Small Barracuda bit and destroyed my Sabiki rigs -- Sometimes up to 4 Cudas at a time. I spent another hour after sunrise searching for bait with no luck catching any on the few metered spots off the junkyard. The wind was calm and it was a beautiful day on the water.

Unfortunately, fishing was very slow. I trolled dead bait and slow/speed jigged for hours near a variety of structures from 90-400ft. Total count was one shark and one Scamp Grouper.

In my 7 years of Kayak fishing off SE Florida, this was my first Legal Scamp Grouper. In the afternoon a SE wind and current became too strong, so the day ended early. Hopefully, next month will have more good weather days and better fishing. Aside from that, it was very therapeutic to exercise and spend the day on the water.
